Here are some resources to help you deal with debt, credit management and of course, taxes. We've included links to the most commonly requested tax forms.

Free and Low-Cost Tax Assistance.
Please check with each service to learn if you qualify for assistance.

  • Tax Information for 2011 Returns A printable list of organizations that provide tax preparation assistance.

  • AARP Tax-Aide is offering free tax preparation help at two Fayetteville locations. Call (910) 433-1136 for more information.
  • Fayetteville Senior Citizens Center, 739 Blue Street--Walk-ins welcome. Offered Monday-Friday, 9 AM-3 PM. Call 910-433-1574.

    Fayetteville Urban Ministry, 701 Whitfield Street--Appointments required. Offered Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4-8 PM. Call 910-483-5944.

  • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is offered through the Internal Revenue Service. Low- to moderate-income (generally, $50,000 and below) taxpayers may qualify for free or low-cost federal and state tax preparation assistance.

  • Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Fayetteville offers free tax help in their offices at 316 Green Street through VITA. If you worked in 2011, and earned less than $50,000, you may qualify. Open Monday-Friday from January 23, 2012 through April 17, 2012 by appointment only. Walk-ins are welcome on Saturdays starting February 4, 2012. Call (910) 323-3192 or toll-free (888) 381-3720 for an appointment.

  • Individual Income Tax Debt Payment Program offered by the N.C. Department of Revenue (NCDOR) is designed to help taxpayers resolve unpaid taxes by waiving certain penalties and fees and offering payment plan options. The program ends April 30, 2012. Contact the nearest local service center or call 1-877-252-4983 for more information.

As part of the N.C. Department of Revenue's efforts to reduce printing costs and encourage electronic filing, the agency will not provide tax forms to public facilities like libraries and post offices this year. To order forms, call 1-877-252-3052 or use this link to request them online.
