Leospot: The Wireless Network of CCPL&IC

The library's wireless network is available at all branches free of charge. A library card is not needed for use of the wireless network.

The library assumes no responsibility for the safety of equipment for laptop configurations, security, or data files resulting from connection to the library’s network.

FAQs

  • Is there an access fee?
    • No. Cumberland County Public Library & Information Center (CCPL&IC) provides this service free of charge to its customers. You must provide your own equipment, wireless card, and software.
  • Is the network secure?
    • No. The library’s wireless network is not secure. Information sent from or to your laptop can be captured by anyone else with a wireless device and the appropriate software. We encourage users to observe standard security practices in relation to passwords and credit cards. The library is not responsible for any losses.
  • Can I print?
  • Can I connect to my corporate VPN in addition to the Internet?
    • Yes. In some cases, you may need to contact your corporate VPN administrator.
  • How fast is the Wi–Fi network?
    • Up to 11Mbps (30–50 times faster than dial–up connections).
  • Is the Wi–Fi network filtered?
    • Yes. CCPL&IC provides Internet access in compliance with federal regulations. If you believe that a site is blocked in error, please inform the library staff.
  • Is there limit on usage?
    • No, there is no limit.
  • Which locations have WiFi?
    • All Cumberland County Public Library & Information Center locations offer free LeoSpot Wi–Fi in approximately 90% of the public areas.

 

Equipment

  • What equipment do I need to access the network?
    • You need a laptop/notebook computer or a personal digital assistant (PDA) equipped with a standard Internet browser and a Wi–Fi compliant (802.11b) wireless Ethernet card. Wall outlets are limited. You should provide your own battery pack.
  • Where can I buy a Wi–Fi card?
    • Wi–Fi 802.11b wireless network cards are available at most electronics retailers.
  • What PC cards or modems are NOT compatible with Wi–Fi and wireless hotspots?
    • BlueTooth, GSM/GPRS, CDMA/1xRTT, PCS Vision and Ricochet cards are NOT compatible with our Wi–Fi network. Also, traditional dial–up modems do not work with Wi–Fi.

 

Connecting

  • How do I connect to the network?
    • Most newer laptops have built–in Wi–Fi capability. These computers automatically alert the user to the presence of a Wi–Fi network when the browser is launched.
    • When your computer offers a list of wireless connections, you will select the connection named"CCLIBWIRELESS" to access the library's Wi-Fi service.
    • Other computers and devices may require some configuration. See the setup instructions for more information.

 

Setup Instructions

Basic instructions for connecting to the Wi–Fi network are available at the information desk at each branch. For more complex issues relating to your Wi-Fi card and its configuration software, you will need to consult your owner’s manual or contact your manufacturer’s support Web site and/or customer support directly.
