Revised 2002

Preface

The purpose of this annotated bibliography is to provide a guide to information in the Cumberland County Law Library. Topics were chosen based on the most frequently requested areas of interest.

Each annotation outlines the type of information found in the work and any special features provided in the work. Special features include an index, a table of cases, or a table of rules.

The annotations are divided into sections which relate to specific legal issues, such as “Family Law,” “Criminal Law,” and “Procedures.” Check the table of contents for the subject you wish to research.

Due Process also includes a “General Sources” section listing sources such as legal encyclopedias, dictionaries, statutes, and digests. Legal encyclopedias provide a general discussion of the law and are similar to any general encyclopedia. Digests give subject access to all cases contained in a particular set of reporters.

For specific case information, check the sources listed in the “Case Reporters” section.

A list of Internet sites is also included. The Internet can be a wonderful tool to find information, but you should remember that it might not be accurate or complete. No resource can replace the services of a licensed and experienced attorney.

Please remember that legal research is time-consuming and requires patience and perseverance. Law Library staff will not provide any legal advice or legal opinions.

The Cumberland County Law Library, located on the third floor of the Cumberland County Courthouse, is a division of Reference & Information Services of the Cumberland County Public Library & Information Center. Hours are 8:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The telephone number is (910) 321-6600.
