    Census sets population for Cumberland County at 9,264.
   

1801

    Fayetteville Academy students perform a variety of theatrical exhibits for the benefit of the Academy.  Proceeds were more than $120.
    Hay Street Methodist Church founded.
   

1810

    Omar Ibn Said, a Muslim slave, is purchased at Fayetteville by John Owen of Bladen County.  Ibn Said could read and write Arabic.

Census sets population for Cumberland County 9,382.

   

1818

    Paris J. Tillinghast appear in the North Carolina Congress asking for incorporation of the Fayetteville Library Company.
   

1820

     The 1820 population for Cumberland County is 14,446.
   

1823

    St. John’s Episcopal Church establishes a circulating library.
   

1824

    Hooper’s Classical School advertises in the Raleigh Register (December 3, 1824) to “propose to open a select school for instruction in the classics and the usual elementary branches of education.”
   

1825

    General Lafayette visits Fayetteville on March 4, 1825.
   

1830

    1830 population for Cumberland County is 14,834.
    Fayetteville Female Society of Industry was incorporated. This benevolent society help provide work for women whose families depended on them for daily support.
   

1831

    The Great Fire of Fayetteville (May 29, 1831).  Fayetteville loses 600 homes, 125 businesses, several churches, and the State House.
   

Tabor United Methodist Church founded.

   

St. Patrick’s Catholic Church is established.

    Ravencroft Academy is incorporated.
   

1832

    The Market House is built.

    First kindergarten opens in Fayetteville.
   

1840

    John Mackey serves as postmaster for the Philopolis post office.
    Saint Andrews Methodist Church is founded.
    Cumberland County’s population is 15,284.
   

1841

    Beaver Creek Campground Church located on Campground Road in north-west Cumberland County is founded.  In 1861 it becomes Camp Ground Church.
   

1845

    Fayetteville's second Great Fire (June 6, 1845).
    The Fayetteville Library Institute is chartered.
   

1847

    First telegraph line through Cumberland County was between north and south crossing the Cape Fear River at McNeill's Bridge and going south across Rockfish at Davis Bridge.
   

1848

    Bethany Methodist Church is founded in north-east Cumberland County as Camp Ground Church.  In 1852 it becomes Bethany Methodist.
    Flea Hill Church on Middle Road becomes Salem Methodist Church.
   

1849

    Work begins on the first plank road from Fayetteville to Salem.

1850

    First area toll house erected on Fayetteville-Little River Plank Road.
   

The Town of Cumberland is settled.  Known as Beaver Creek for the stream on which it is located until 1899 when it was incorporated.

   

The population of Cumberland County is 20,610.

   

1854

    Warren Winslow, Speaker of the North Carolina Senate in 1854, becomes acting Governor for 25 days (December 6, 1854 – January 1, 1855) when Governor David Reid becomes a U.S. Senator.
