Library Division Manager/Youth Services position #LIB0082

An employee in this position directs system wide Youth Services planning and programming. Develops, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates program standards for each location. Works with Librarians II to develop programming for each location and directs the resource sharing between branches. Working with the Library Learning and Innovation Manager, coordinates Youth Services training in youth librarianship, programming, literature evaluation, storytelling, puppetry, book talking and reference. Oversees use of technology in Youth Services as tools for learning. Coordinates Youth Services collection development. Maintains reports and records of programs and other statistical information pertinent to Youth Services. Coordinates the selection, maintenance, and dissemination of system wide program resources such as puppets, craft supplies, etc. Serves as Chair of the Youth Services Advisory Council and Youth Leadership Team. Actively participates on various internal team/committees e.g. EDMT, Public Services Managers and Director’s Advisory Committee, Database Task Force and Online Presence Team. Conducts regular site visits and meets with Librarians II to assess services, programming, and related resources. Cooperates with the Branch Managers and YS Librarian II’s in the selection and evaluation of staff assigned to Youth Services in the system.

Location: Headquarters Library

Requirements: Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) required. Must have five years experience as a MLS professional youth/children’s librarian in a public library system including three years library supervisory experience.

Trainee Applicants must have at least 4 ½ years experience as a MLS youth/children’s librarian in a public library system and 2 ½ years of library supervisory experience

North Carolina Public Library Certification within 18 months of employment.

Current salary is: $53,979/yr.

Librarian I/Cataloger Position # LIB0186

An employee in this position is responsible for providing advanced cataloging/processing services to the library system. Also acts as primary assistant to the technical services manager; may regularly act as Person-in-Charge in absence of department manager. Is responsible for overseeing the general workflow of the department’s acquisitions and processing duties, tracking outstanding orders, and supervising, scheduling & training all Administrative Support Specialists in the department. Employee maintains accurate financial records, copies and edits catalog records for the Integrated Library System (ILS), and manages adult and juvenile paperback standing orders as well as direct orders and all order cancellations. Tracks grant funds for the collection development division.

Requirements: Master of Library Science degree (MLS) required. Public library cataloging experience required. Knowledge of Evergreen ILS preferred. Supervisory experience preferred.

Trainee Applicants must have completed at least 75% of required course work towards a MLS and submit a letter from the dean of the library school that states the number of credit hours already obtained and that the candidate can complete all master’s degree requirements within twelve months.

North Carolina Public Library Certification within 18 months of employment.

Current salary is: $37,580/yr.
