Custodian (part-time) 19 hrs/wk Position #LIB0148

Performs a variety of custodial work in the care and maintenance of library building and facility. Employee is responsible for sweeping, mopping and using vacuum cleaners to clean floors; washing walls, windows, woodwork and fixtures; and policing building to empty trash receptacles and pick up debris, etc. Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture. Strips wax, waxes and buffs floor surfaces, etc.

LIBRARIAN I/YOUTH SERVICES #LIB0235

An employee in this position is responsible for providing advanced library services to customers at youth services desks by answering reference questions and assisting youth, parents, and caregivers with the selection of material and the use of library resources. Develops and presents programs for youth, birth through grade 12. Assists in youth collection development and system-wide initiatives.

Requirements: Master of Library Science degree (MLS) required. Preferred candidates will have educational background or experience in Youth Services.

Trainee applicants must have completed at least 75% of required course work towards a MLS and submit a letter from the dean of the library school that states the number of credit hours already obtained and that the candidate can complete all Master’s degree requirements within twelve months.

Deputy Library Director #LIB0002

An employee in this position performs administrative and managerial work in directing the activities and services of the public library. The Deputy Director assists in directing the activities of the entire library and serves in the absence of the Director. The Deputy Director oversees the day-to-day operation of the library with a focus on public services, policy and procedures. The Deputy Director is responsible for data gathering and analysis as well as reporting on whether the library is meeting its goals and objectives. This position will implement actions or decisions that will achieve such goals and objectives. The Deputy Director works with the Director and the Director's Management Teams in making decisions and setting procedures for the library as a whole, and performs related work as required.

Location: Headquarters Library

Requirements: Master of Library Science degree (MLS) required. Applicant must have seven (7) years of experience as a library professional in a public library system, including five (5) years supervisory experience working with all levels of library staff.

Equivalent Training
MLS with five (5) years of experience as a library professional in a public library system combined with a professional degree (Masters level or higher) in another field and two (2) years public service experience to include considerable supervisory experience. Trainee status may be considered.

North Carolina Public Library Certification within 18 months of employment.

Current salary is: $61,839/yr.
