Librarian II (Youth Services) Position # LIB0050

An employee in this position is responsible for the supervision, training and scheduling of youth services staff within a library youth services department. The employee is required to provide reference service and readers’ advisory in youth literature. Develops and presents programs for youth from birth through grade 12. May act as supervisor in charge on a regular basis in the absence of the manager.

Requirements: Master of Library Science degree (MLS) with 18 months experience as a MLS professional librarian in a public library. Six months supervisory experience preferred. Experience in providing services to youth is preferred.

Trainee candidates must have at least 12 months experience as a MLS professional librarian in a public library.

North Carolina Public Library Certification within 18 months of employment.

Current salary is: $40,524/yr.

Librarian II (Local & State History Manager) Position # LIB0045

This position is responsible for the overall supervision of the Local and State History Department, including management of the collection, and supervision, training, and scheduling of staff in the Local and State History department. Co-coordinates the supervision, training, and scheduling of IS staff for general information services. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Headquarters Services Manager. This position regularly acts as Person in Charge in the absence of the Headquarters Services Manager.

Librarian I (Youth Services) Position # LIB0235

Provides advanced library services to customers at youth services desks by answering reference questions and assisting youth, parents, and caregivers with the selection of material. Develops and presents age-appropriate programs for youth, birth through grade 12. Assists in youth collection development.

Requirements: Master of Library Science degree (MLS) required.

Preferred candidates will have educational background or experience in Youth Services.

Trainee Applicants must have completed at least 75% of required course work towards a MLS and submit a letter from the dean of the library school that states the number of credit hours already obtained and that the candidate can complete all master’s degree requirements within twelve months.

North Carolina Public Library Certification within 18 months of employment.

Current salary is: $37,025/yr.
