Custodian Position Roster #117000143

The major objective of this position is to perform building and grounds maintenance in order to keep the Library facilities clean, attractive and functioning efficiently. An employee in this position
is responsible for sweeping, mopping and using vacuum cleaners to clean floors; washing walls, windows, woodwork and fixtures; and policing building to empty trash receptacles and pick up of debris, etc. Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture; cleans and sanitizes restrooms using established practices and procedures; strips wax, waxes and buffs floor surfaces, etc. Assists with the setup of meetings and events at the library.

Requirements: Completion of eighth grade and six months work experience to include some janitorial and/or maintenance duties in an office or commercial environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Current salary is: $22,521.92/year

LPLA/ALA Aide Grant Intern Position #117009999

This position is a temporary intern position funded through a grant from the Public Library Association (PLA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). This position will work one-on-one with a mentor to develop a connected learning project that will focus on providing access to library services for under-served youth and encourage interest in library services as a future career.

The selected candidate must:

  • Be available to work June 24 - September 13, 2019 (work hours may vary) and
  • Will be required to participate in a 3 day, expenses paid, kick-off event in Chicago, IL June 13-15 and a wrap-up event in Washington, DC September 20-22.

    Requirements: Candidate must be a high school junior, senior, or college freshman. If under 18 years of age, must have a valid work permit. Background check and negative drug test are required.

    Salary: $13.85 - $15.35 Hourly

    An employee in this position is required to provide reference service and readers’ advisory in youth literature. Develops and presents programs for youth from birth through grade 12. May act as supervisor in charge on a regular basis in the absence of the manager. Works with other YS Librarian II’s under the direction of the Division Manager for Youth Services to plan and implement new services and programs for youth. May be assigned system-wide responsibilities such as grant management, new service development, or ordering materials.

    Requirements: Master of Library Science degree (MLS) required. Must have two (2) years experience as a professional librarian. Six months supervisory experience preferred. Experience in providing services to youth is preferred.
