The purpose of the "Library Endowment Trust" is to raise additional financial resources for the Cumberland County Public Library & Information Center to supplement current local government, state and federal monies to enhance and expand library and information resources and services to the people of Cumberland County. The motto of our Trust is "Tax dollars make a good library; gifts make a great library." These tax deductible contributions are deposited with the Cumberland Community Foundation who administers and manages our Trust funds. The interest earned from the Library Endowment Trust is used annually for:

The Frances Brooks Stein & Harry B. Stein Memorial Library Fund (Stein Fund) was established at the library in 1974 for the development of a book and audio visual collection solely devoted to the enhancement and improvement of teaching skills and education. Frances Brooks Stein served on the Library Board of Trustees in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Interest from this fund enables the library to purchase materials of benefit to the community. | Donating to the Friends of the Library | ||
The Friends of the Library accept donated materials, including books, CDs and DVDs in good or like new condition. These materials are reviewed for inclusion in the Friends used book sales and possibly for the library collection. Items deemed in poor condition or of little interest will be discarded through a recycling program. All book sale proceeds benefit library programs and services and donations are tax deductible as allowed under the extent of the law. |

| Volunteering for the Friends of the Library | ||
Friends of the Library may indicate on their membership forms if they would like to volunteer for setting up for or assisting with book sales, or helping with special speaker events. The Friends of the Library also provide volunteer support for other special events, to serve as branch representatives for the Board, and to participate in the program committee. Requests for help are often sent out to members via the Friends' electronic newsletter. For information about other opportunities, please ask for assistance at any library location. |
