In 1932 the first free public library was established for Fayetteville citizens. Service was extended to all residents of Cumberland County in 1933.

- Information Smart Librarians answer questions over the telephone and over the computer. They are happy to assist with online searches to find articles, statistics, and more.
- The Answer Book provides contact information for local agencies, organizations, and groups.
- Online Catalogs that you can access from your home or business computer.
- Access to a nation–wide network of libraries for borrowing books.
- Story times and special programs for birth through teen years.
- Computer terminals and Internet Access for public use at every branch.
- Mobile Outreach Service for the entire community.
- A Local & State History Room with extensive archives, photographs and more.
- Dozens of languages are represented in our Foreign Language Collection
- Online reference resources, like NC LIVE which provides access to over 4,800 full–text magazines, reference books, newspapers, and E–Books
- And we're adding more all the time!
